Finally, I am back in the loving embrace of home. Dry weather, substantial food, and loads and loads of disc golf, that’s what it’s all about.
And perhaps most important of all: grass.
It’s easy to take grass for granted when it’s all around you. I barely noticed it for 27 years.
But when you live in a series of concrete rectangles most of the time, broad expanses of lush, soft, green grass have a strangely calming and satisfying effect. Yesterday, I took off my shoes and socks and walked around in some grass all afternoon. I was constantly aware of the strange sensation of feeling something (anything) with my feet. Usually, my tender tootsies are rammed into sweaty shoes slapping on unyielding sidewalks and my mind blocks out any sensation from my lower extremities to spare me the discomfort (thanks, subconscious). I stepped on a pine cone and I didn’t even care that much.
Jack White + Q-Tip - Hi-De-Ho
Another great song from probably the greatest performing and breathing musician, Jack White. The intro is a bit long and reminds me of the prayers they blast in Kuala Lumpur. But when the riff kicks, it’s a catchy one. Q-Tip’s washed-out lyrics pair nicely with the distortion. The bassline is obviously incredible. This is a great example of a song that has a catchy hook but doesn’t use it that much, making you want to hear it again.
Evil Needle - Galaxy Wars
A very chill near-dubstep track with a blissed-out feel. Put it on, do the dishes, profit.
Demob Happy - Be Your Man
Another British band that loses their accent when they sing. Believe it or not, they’re from Brighton. They sound like they’re from Colorado. This is just a nice rock song for a sunny day. You don’t have to think about it too much. Bonus points for the incredible amount of awkward eye contact in the video.
